Welcome to the KiddleDad Blog. This blog is loosely affiliated with Sweet Kiddles flexible childcare center. It's unclear how loosely, but my guess is that Andrea, my wife and the founder of Sweet Kiddles, is hoping for "very loosely." But based on the fact that I've mentioned the name of the business twice in the opening paragraph, our “loose” affiliation isn't looking so good.
If you're reading this, you're probably a member of my immediate family, or my buddy Phil Gormley (Hi Phil!). Or maybe Andrea's chosen to promote this through the Sweet Kiddles weekly newsletter, although I can't fathom why. Some of you may know my work from the annual Christmas letter that I write. These letters have garnered me positive comments from, and I’m talking literally here, high single digit numbers of people. So, if you've read that letter and are still reading this you must have a really unique sense of humor (hi again, Phil!).
I've held off on writing a blog for some time because, let's face it, I have a job. And part of my job is to not make a donkey of myself. There's a second reason, which is: Andrea has a job- a business, that is. A business that could really do without me blowing a hole in our personal reputations. But the truth must get out!
I write mostly about what it's like to be a parent in the world today. Being a parent is one of the exhausting, hardest, most challenging but at the same time rewarding... well some rewards are near-term and some are far off, aren’t they (are you thinking about your 5-year-old's wedding too?)? Let’s face it, in the short run, sometimes parenting is just tough.
Which leads me to something I should probably get out of the way right here in post 1... My parenting job is tough. Sometimes it's like mile-17-of-the-marathon tough. But being me is like a warm, sunny day compared to being Andrea. I may want to pull my hair out trying to get the kids dressed in the morning. But when they show up at Sweet Kiddles with mis-matching clothes and their hair asunder, leaving behind a home that's a wreck, nobody says "Robert is a bad dad." But if Andrea does the same, you can imagine how people would view her. So the kids look perfect leaving our perfectly clean house, and then Andrea runs a perfectly clean childcare center with 300 member families and 15 staff members.
None of this, of course, will stop me from teasing her a little her and there. Or myself, or you the parent reader. I like to write about kids because they're funny. But I like to write about parents more because we're funnier. After all, they have an excuse- they're kids. What's yours?
Glad to see a dad blogger in this world of mostly mom bloggers! I highly doubt you would ever shed a bad light on the business - after all, most people don't understand blogging/bloggers. And quite honestly, they just won't visit your blog.
ReplyDeleteAnd those that do (all ... umm... 2-3 of us) are also bloggers. And are very forgiving with fellow bloggers. My kids both go to SK and love it (as do my husband and I (love it...not attend...obviously))...and I'm a blogger too. Although I rarely tell people this...because they assume this means I have time oozing out of my ears and thus want to come over and clean their house...while also doing freelance (with an emphasis on the free) for their companies.
ANYWHO....welcome to the blogging world!
